Alma’s workout journey started as a family affair with her two kids and husband taking walks and bike rides after dinner. She started working out at Oasis after losing weight and feeling weak. She wanted to feel strong and didn’t know where to start. She wanted to lift weights but was afraid of doing it alone and getting injured. So she sought the help of Oasis Personal Training.
Alma says, “My workouts have changed enormously. I pay very close attention to form and technique. I was accustomed to a routine but now my workout consistes of may different types of exercises. The scariest part was trying things out of my comfort zone. Now those new workouts have become my favorite. The attention and support of my trainer and the way she maximizes my workouts in the time we have together has allowed me to learn so much about my body, nutrition, technique, and form.”
Real woman who are working toward their goals just like her inspire her the most.
“With work, family and school/social events it feel impossible to squeeze in a workout. I’ve met woman who make that time. To me that is very motivating that I can make that time too.”
I've been working out with Danny once a week since he started working at Oasis in February, and I want to let you know how happy I am with the program he has designed for me. Although I'm not always happy during our session - his workouts are hard! - I always leave feeling stronger and with a great sense of accomplishment. I feel like this cool, tough chick who can do anything.
If someone had told me that I'd be working out with a former semi-pro hockey player, I would have scoffed. If someone told me that I'd be doing workouts that semi-pro hockey players do (modified, of course) I would have laughed out loud. But so many times Danny says, "We used to do this in hockey." Well, all right! Now I'm doing it too!
One of the most challenging, most rewarding workouts was the day he had me pull 75 pounds worth of weights across the classroom floor. With the big rope. With one arm. In plank. And then I got to push the weights back and do it all over again with the other arm. Wow! When I told friends about this, everybody was amazed. I was amazed. I know that I would never push myself as hard on my own, which is why I decided to get personal training in the first place, but the workouts with Danny far exceed my expectations.
And do I need to tell you how nice he is?
My job as a horticulturist is very physical. I bend, stoop, squat, climb over fences, haul hoses, lift heavy plants and bags of soil. I don't plan to retire for another 8 years, so I need to stay strong. Danny helps make that possible. Thanks Danny!
In March, someone had asked me if I was ready to start working out. As someone who has been overweight their whole life, and at 455 lbs at the time, I had wanted to do something about my weight and health for quite awhile. When I thought about answering that question, I finally decided to be honest with myself and put aside all the excuses, and admitted to myself that I had no reason not to. So I started off slowly, walking on the treadmill. After about three months, I had reached the extent of my fitness knowledge I had acquired 20 years ago in the square dancing classes I had taken in High School Phys Ed (I like the easy classes). To keep trying to challenge myself and moving forward, it was time to think about a trainer. I was a bit hesitant, partly because I have a hard time asking for help, and partly because doing anything physically active is foreign to me and I feel awkward. I wasn't sure what to expect working with a trainer. I have been surprised with what I have been pushed to do that I did not think I could do or would not have even tried on my own. What surprised me more was that has also been a little bit fun, which I wasn't expecting at all. I would suggest to anyone who was considering training to keep in mind that you get what you put into it. If you put 100% into it with a positive attitude, your trainer will match every bit of it and you'll get to where you want to be that much stronger. Hopefully along the way, your trainer's passion and love of fitness will rub off on you no matter what your goal is. So far, I have lost 80lbs and am still training twice per week and coming into Oasis six days a week.
