If you're looking to really torch calories and sculpt your body in a relatively short amount of time, then H.I.I.T. is the class you've been looking for!
High Intensity Interval Training mixes short bursts of cardio to get your heart rate up with mini strength bursts that bring your heart rate lower, all in a fast moving 45 minute class. The continual fluctuation of higher/lower heart rates revs up the metabolism and keeps your body burning calories long after you have finished class.
H.I.I.T. is ideal for you if you have been doing at least 20 minutes of cardio a few times a week and you are ready to progress to a new level. Don't be intimidated - you can work at your own level!
H.I.I.T. is taught by Laura de sae Silva and is offered on Mondays at 8:45 a.m. and Thursdays at 6:15 p.m.
THE OASIS SUPER CYCLE CHARITY RIDE RAISED $2016 FOR PILLARS!
All 18 bikes were full on Sunday March 7th as we kicked off our first "Super Cycle Charity Ride" to benefit Pillars. Whether participants were riding for thirty minutes or three hours, everyone was enthusiastic, optimistic and ready to sweat and have fun for a good cause. The riders, including Oasis members and non-members, were: Lois Honan, Virginia Craft, Jane Ryan, Amy Wiginton, Sue Scanlon, Carolyn Nilles, Elyse Zanghi, Sue Lewis, Jane Booth, Katie Miskovic, Felicia Figlewicz, Carrie Johnson, Lee Bence, Helen Murphy, Maureen Bigane, Tara Haas, Mary McKinstry, Catherine Moran, Peg O'Brien, Lori-Jo Fergle, Pam Mical, Karen Capria, Jen Courington, Karen Bellovich, Cathy Wilburn, Kathy Deane, Tracy Hough, Kathy Harders, Carrie Graham, Laura Shebelski, Mary Ann Peters and Mary Constant.
The Super Cycle Charity event was the idea of veteran instructor and trainer Laura Mungai with the aim of promoting camaraderie and inspiring people to step out of their fitness comfort zones - and most of all to benefit Pillars which provides our community with many invaluable services.
With the help of Laura and fellow instructors Erin Jacobson and Nancy Cummings, riders pedaled their way through the workout with smiles on their faces and many riders opted to stay on for longer than they had planned! Everyone emerged with sweat on their brows and a sense of satisfaction at a job well done. What we mostly heard though was "That was so much fun!"
Post ride, fellow cycling/Pilates instructor Laura de sae Silva was on hand to lead riders through a relaxing stretch. Oasis massage therapists Erin Smith and Nicole Novikas were on hand offering free chair massages and Dr. Michelle McPolin Boyd from Back in Balance Chiropractic & Acupuncture Center was there to assist riders as well. The day concluded with refreshments, good conversation, and the raffle drawing.
Many area businesses donated prizes to the raffle which raised additional funds through the sale of raffle tickets to those Oasis members who chose not to participate in the ride. See our list of donors below.
All proceeds from this event - rider registration fees, rider sponsorships, and raffle ticket sales - went directly to Pillars and together we raised $2016 !!! We would like to thank all of the local businesses that donated the wonderful raffle prizes, the staff at Oasis for volunteering their time, and all of the members and non-members who participated in this event!

Wouldn't it be nice to get your cardio, strength, endurance and functional training done in one class? Wouldn't it be even better if you could get it done in 45 minutes or less?
Now you can with the "One Shot" workout!
Unlike traditional group classes where everyone does the same thing at the same time at a pace chosen by the instructor, the One Shot workout allows you to 'customize' your workout by completing the prescribed exercises as quickly and intensely as you can with good form. You rest when needed and then continue when you're ready. The average time for completing any given workout ranges from 10 - 20 minutes minus warm-up, cool-down, and a stretch.
Working out at high intensities for short periods of time not only helps to improve your cardiovascular fitness, it also helps with overall fat-loss. In fact, you will find the results are like those from a longer session of less intense cardio and strength training, but in half the time! In studies that compared fat loss in individuals who trained slow and steady vs. those who trained at high intensities for shorter durations, fat loss was identical when all other circumstances were the same.
The intensity of this class makes it more applicable to the seasoned exerciser looking for a very challenging class although it is important to note that all exercises can be scaled and modified to meet your needs.
