It's no fad. Created in the 30's? by Joseph Pilates, it's a structured series of movements that flow one into the other and target the core muscles in the back, buttocks, thighs, and abs with the premise that all movement initiates from a stable source - namely the "core" or "powerhouse." It even works muscles that are nearly impossible to get at (think inner thighs!)

Dancers need these muscles, and so do you...for balance, for strength, for posture, for grace. Pilates himself claimed you'd feel better after ten sessions, look better after twenty ...and "have a whole new body" after thirty! We know you'll walk taller and "younger" almost instantly.

Pilates is powerful, and we're proud to offer mat classes as part of our regular membership. (Most clubs charge extra.)

YOGA

Most people run around thinking and doing all day with very little awareness of their bodies. Yoga is the antidote. It reconnects you to your body, your breathing, and yourself. You stretch and hold various asanas (poses) and concentrate on your form and breathing. What you DON'T do is look around to see if you're doing it "better" or "worse" than everyone else. Yoga is NOT a competitive sport! This is all about you being...with you.


It doesn't take long for this mind-body connection to work its magic. You gain strength and flexibility from the poses, it's true. But you also gain something else: a wonderful feeling of being awake and alive, yet calm and serene. You feel accomplished and appreciative of yourself in all your dimensions and roles. It's quite satisfying.

There's nothing else quite like Yoga, and we're proud to offer it to our members in several easy-to-love forms.

Private Yoga

Private Yoga Lessons are an oasis at Oasis. Wonderful for anyone, but especially good for those who feel self-conscious or competitive in class. They're also terrific for beginners who may find it difficult at first to know if their form is correct, and which variation of each pose is most suitable for them.
